The inspiration for my Environmental Medicine Rattle series began with a prayer for healing the earth. I thought of civilizations and cultures where rattles are part of ceremony when spirit is summoned to bring change. Tiny beads within the hollow form produce a delicate sound.
Both sides are ornamented with figurative work both literal and abstract. Sometimes one side represents day and the opposing side night.
The gemstones are representational: Yellow Sapphire - Sun, Blue Moonstone - Moon, Opal - Earth, Pearl - cloud and tiny Diamonds - stars rotating in the sky or reflecting upon a lily pond.
The top gemstone I call the crown. It is also the handle of the rattle. It is often an Aquamarine that brings to mind crisp, clear air or the purity of glacial ice.
The collection numbers 43 unique pieces. 42 are sold.
